The story of the Steingraeber & Sons piano factory began in Thuringia in the 1820s. The company then set up shop in the festival city of Bayreuth in 1852. Richard Wagner and Franz Liszt were among our first Bayreuth customers. More recently, our clients have included artists like Daniel Barenboim, well-known festivals like La Roque d'Anthéron, and famous theaters, including the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Prinzregenten Theater in Munich, Teatre Sucre in Quito, and Getty Hall in San Francisco.

At our Bayreuth factory, Steingraeber & Sons builds custom pianos in an up-to-100% strictly traditional, handcrafted manner. In addition to classic piano building, we produce designer models that run the gamut from the 1906 Bruno Paul grand to the 2009 Jørn Utzon grand, and instruments with acoustically innovative features, including - but not limited to – carbon fiber sound boards, Transducer, Mozart rail, Sordino, the SFM repeater system for upright pianos.

Bayreuth's historic Steingraeber Haus was built by Pedrozzi and St. Pierre in 1754; it has served as the company headquarters since 1871. 100 events take place annually in the Steingraeber Rokokosaal, the Kammermusiksaal, and the Hoftheater. The factory itself is also located in the same part of central Bayreuth. There are now three artist apartments for (inter-) national customers and guests.

Steingraeber & Söhne has been an international, award-winning brand since 1867. The current CEO is Udo Schmidt-Steingraeber, the sixth generation of what has always been a family-run business. The children of Delia and Udo Steingraeber are already partners and continue to run the company. We make three upright piano models, the 122, 130, and 138, as well as five different grand pianos, the A-170, B-192, C-212, D-232, and the E-272.
